RIO PACUARE 1
DAY
There are daily departures
from San José, the Caribbean Coast and
the Arenal Volcano, giving you the choice to
start and finish at the place of your convenience.
Half way between these locations is the Exploration
Center, a private base for the river trips and
the Tortuguero Expeditions.
The Pacuare River is one of
the best choices for your adventure treks in
Costa Rica. Another trip in the country does
not exist that offers you a perfect blend of
wilderness exposure and excitement, both in
one day.
Pacuare is world famous for
its sheer beauty. A true river gorge, it is
flanked by steep, green walls. Here you enjoy
the feeling of total isolation from urban life
and the realness of being connected with nature.
You see waterfalls cascade into the river from
both sides as colorful, tropical birds fly right
over your head. Amazing views of this virgin
tropical rainforest area, appear before your
eyes as you descend this true exploratory land.
Wildlife is abundant, with sloth, toucans, parrots,
coatis, morpho butterflies and colorful frogs
being common sights.
The white water that is equally
exciting. It is not an overly challenging river,
but it has a lot rapids, therefore giving you
an adventure filled with lots of fun. The 18
mile one day run includes a total of 38 rapids.
Few rivers in the world can offer you so many.
After the gorge the rivers
opens up to a 5 mile stretch on the Valle del
Pacuare, where the river has a different character.
It is wide open, which gives you the opportunity
to rest a bit and take the opportunity to do
some wildlife spotting. The main rapids here
are "Cimarrones", "The Play Hole",
"El Indio" and "Magnetic Rock".
The forest remains just as lush, and the rapids
just as fun.
You finish in Siquirres, at
our own private Exploration Center, where you
can take a shower, change and enjoy the gardens
and terrace while having a beer or two and reflecting
with your new friends about the great adventure
you just shared

CAHUITA GLASS
BOTTOM BOAT, SNORKEL and HIKING TRIP:

Description:
This National Park features the largest Coral
reefs in Southern Central America as well as
great hiking trails with lots of wildlife. We
can observe 35 different coral species such
as the fire coral and the red and black coral
which is unique in this area. There are 123
different species of fishes, 44 species of crustaceans,
140 shellfish and 1281 various algies identified.
On this combine trip we will do a loop in 3
sections First we will ride in a glass bottom
boat to Punta Cahuita. The 45 minute ride will
allow us to view the reefs up close with all
of its great inhabitants. Quality information
will be delivered. Once at the point we will
put our snorkel gear on to explore first hand
the “under water tropical forest”.
The array of shapes and colours is out of this
world. And the feeling of the tropical sun heat
on your back while you are under water is so
sweet.
We will land at Cahuita Point
to partake on a guided rainforest hike, with
comprehensive information on this particular
area. Monkeys, sloth, several reptiles, frogs
and beautiful insects are common sights.We finish
back at the park entrance.
ADVICE: Bring bathing suit,
binoculars, camera, bug repellant, sun block
and hiking shoes. Seasickness is normally not
a problem, but bring Gravol. If raining, a change
of clothes, towel, rain coat and a plastic bag.

way back you will observe the scenery change
from primary jungle to costal vegetation. Lunch
will be served at Maxi's restaurant in Manzanillo,
one of the most authentic and colorful places
of the area. Here we will depart back to Playa
Chiquita Lodge.
